DuoVox Mate Pro: A fun but imperfect night vision camera

A new camera called the Duovox Mate Pro, which is aimed at consumers and is designed for night shooting. It uses a Sony Starvus II CMOS sensor, which is supposedly a thousand times more sensitive than the latest smartphone sensors, to capture clear color images in low light conditions where a smartphone or the naked eye would only see a dark smudge.

The camera is not infrared but can detect near-infrared light and is sensitive down to .0001, equivalent to a moonless overcast night sky. The camera has a 1x1.8-inch sensor that shoots 3200x1800 images and 2560x1440 video at 30 frames per second, and it weighs just 216 grams.

However, the lens juts out three inches, so it is not exactly pocketable, and it does not come with a lens cap. The Duovox Mate Pro also features a fast f/0.9 aperture and a built-in light with three different brightness levels. The camera has a microSD slot that supports up to 512GB cards and a USB-C port for charging and file transfers. Another control is done via the three-inch fixed touch screen that's bright enough to see in daylight.

The settings are designed for night shooting, with features such as instant recording mode, way back mode, face detection, and screen brightness, among others. The Mate Pro also has a Wi-Fi option, allowing users to upload directly to their smartphones via a hotspot connection or even stream directly to the internet. The camera is not designed for image quality but rather for security cameras, so Duovox uses AI to get the best exposure and minimize noise.
